The best piece of advice I can give to new writers is this: Separate your writing and editing! You will get burnt out quickly if you try to edit as you write. Get your ideas out first, then go back, fix punctuation and use a thesaurus to change words and jazz up your writing. If you try to edit as you write, you will likely get flustered and quit before you've given yourself a proper chance.

^That's an excellent tip! I usually put a serious piece of writing away for an hour or so and then edit it.

I find that making sure I can find some "alone time" to write helps me out a lot. By alone time, I mean - without distractions. It's not always possible; however, I find I do my best writing when I do have peace and quiet. As a side note, I actually also find I do my best writing at night.

::shrugging::

Now, depending on what I'm writing, music plays a role as well.

Example: Poetry, I love having R&B Music on.

I guess my advice would be, if you are easily distracted, but love writing, make sure you find your alone time. It will show in your work if you do - as well as if you do not.

I have always been a good writer and I am the human spell check and grammatical error corrector-lol. I wish more people would take Amanda's advice.

I'll take a minute to reply to The Writer Guyz advice:

Everyone definitely has a time that they can do their best writing. For me, I have to write first thing in the morning if I want my writings to be coherent. Some writers can only write well at night. It is utterly important to find the time that is right for you.

Also, I do more technical writing than creative writing. That being said, I can't write with any kind of music on in the background. It makes my writing go so much slower. I know a lot of people who can't write without music.

Overall, writing needs to be individualized. There is no right way to do it. It's a game of trial and error and eventually you will figure out your ideal writing conditions. Smile
